Gardening with Purpose

Gardening with Purpose by Dickerdo Farm

This is a new series here at the website. While we do garden and plant with the intent for consumption, there are other reasons we plant the plants we do.

Gardening with Purpose for us means everything has a purpose. For example, the aloe we grow is used for its many herbal and healing properties. We grow Sweet Grass with the intent of creating smudge sticks and fragrance sticks. We grow Sage for its edible purposes as well as its herbal properties. Of course, we grow tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and more vegetables for consumption. Our dill is growing with the intent of using it with our cucumbers to can pickles.

We grow Parsley for our chickens.

We grow Wisteria because, well, it's flowers are beautiful!

We grow Marigolds, Celosia (Cockscomb), and other plants to use in dyeing our yarn and fiber.

Lavender will be dried for fragrance sachets - they smell amazing!

Follow along in our "Gardening with Purpose" series to learn about the plants we are growing and the purpose we have for each.
